This summer your middle school, high school or college student can learn The Weaver Center's Self-Advocacy Method (SAM) in a small group setting.
During six 2-hour weekly SAM sessions, students will gain insight into their own learning style and executive function skills. They will understand their strengths and areas of challenge. They will identify and learn to effectively use compensatory strategies to deal with their difficulties. Communication and assertiveness skills needed to navigate school and work environments will be developed. Through role-playing, students will learn and implement practical self-advocacy skills and will gain knowledge about when and how to ask for accommodations.
Groups are taught by Dr. Robert A. (Buck) Weaver, Ph.D., Director of The Weaver Center and founder of the SAM programs. Sessions will be held on Thursdays, July 12 – August 16, 2012.
For more information or to register for a SAM Workshop, please call 508-358-1112, ext. 210

Transition To College Workshop 2012
Is your son or daughter going off to college and you worry about them achieving their goals without the structure and supports they had in high school? Or is he/she returning to school and would like a more successful year?
The Weaver Center’s 4-session workshop helps with the transition to college and develops personalized strategies to get the most out of the college years.
Highlights of the workshop include:
~ Preparing for your college arrival: defining college success, goals, what to bring, your learning style and strengths, arranging for accommodations if needed
~ The first week of school: time management, how to select courses, decision making, communication and self-advocacy, establishing a routine, meeting others and making friends
~ Academics: study and note-taking strategies, project planning, asking for help and being pro-active
~ Life Balance and Maintenance: dealing with distractions, avoiding over-scheduling, sleep, nutrition, exercise, managing your money and free time
Workshops will be conducted by Marla Stone, M.A., a Life and Executive Function Coach. She works with teens and adults with a focus on high school students transitioning to college.
